Nelumbo nucifera

I am a drab Fritillary, proboscis
lanky, leg pouches
distended with sun nectar.

You are the alabaster blossom
unfurled, patient
in your thousand mirrors

of dew. Awkward in my
greedy dive, missing stamen
tumbling, belly up

wings swamped, stuck
backward to mucilage
petalwise.
